Dematic Expands into Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and the Cloud

Acquisition of Upturn Solutions enhances Dematic's product offerings in facility workflow, asset and inventory management and preventative maintenance.

Today, Dematic announced its acquisition of Upturn Solutions, a leading provider of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) designed for distribution, manufacturing and warehouse environments.

The acquisition of the Bigfork, Montana-based Upturn enhances Dematic solutions and expands its capability into distribution center workflow, asset and inventory management, and preventative maintenance.

“The acquisition of Upturn Solutions supports our strategic mission to provide our customers with the critical business intelligence required today to streamline and automate their processes to improve work flow,” stated Ulf Henriksson, President and CEO, Dematic Group. “The integration of CMMS into our software offering will further enhance our ability to deliver robust order fulfillment solutions that provide competitive advantage for the diversified markets we serve including ecommerce, retail, apparel, healthcare, 3PL, food, beverage, parcel and manufacturing.”

The Dematic CMMS offering is a low cost, subscription-based service designed by maintenance people for maintenance people. The product offers the customer the ability to “pay as you go” rather than requiring a large upfront investment as with traditional CMMS.

John Baysore, President and CEO, Dematic North America stated, “In listening to our customers, we know they struggle with the upfront investment and usability of today’s CMMS offerings. Our acquisition of Upturn will allow Dematic to closely integrate and leverage the benefits of a streamlined maintenance management tool with our material handling knowledge at a very affordable price.”

The transaction was finalized today, Monday, December 23, 2013. The Bigfork office location will continue operations including research and development, sales and service.

Why is Dematic acquiring a company that produces a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)?
This acquisition expands Dematic’s reach into asset and inventory management, as well as preventative maintenance, while increasing our mobile device offerings and cloud deployment capability, enhancing the solutions that we provide.

Is this an acquisition or a merger?
An acquisition, which was completed on December 23, 2013. With the closing of the acquisition, Upturn Solutions became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dematic Group.

What advantage does this acquisition provide the customer?
Dematic’s goal is to increase the value of our solutions and improve the customer experience. The integration of a CMMS into our software helps us provide customers with the information they need in an automated and streamlined manner that improves workflow and spare parts management options for a competitive advantage.

Will the acquisition by Dematic affect current user support services or who I work with at Sprocket?
No. Dematic is committed to continuing and improving the customer support experience for all Sprocket CMMS customers. All current Sprocket employees are being retained as Dematic employees.

Does Dematic intend to continue to invest in Sprocket software products?
Absolutely. Dematic will invest in advancing the Sprocket offering, expanding and enhancing the analytic, alerting and tracking capabilities within the software.

Will Sprocket only support Dematic mechatronics solutions in the future?
No. Dematic is focused on creating logistical results and knowledge-based solutions that allow customers to make smarter business decisions. As such, the Sprocket software will be sold to anyone in any market who requires a CMMS. Having a CMMS will provide our customers the ability to track and maintain equipment and ensure the highest availability and uptime of their solutions.

What synergies can you expect from the acquisition?
We believe that the combined creativity and resources of the two organizations will help to promote development of innovative and forward-thinking solutions that will help define the future of asset management, predictive fault management and maximizing solution uptime. Additionally, users can also expect more data service capabilities.
