DAT’s April Truckload Volume Index sees declines from March
April’s TVI dry van freight reading—at 273—was off 10% compared to March, with the refrigerated TVI—at 190—and the flatbed TVI—at 229—down 10% and 6%, respectively, for the same period. Transplace’s OptiPro focuses on shipment collaboration and LTL pooling
Earlier this month, Frisco, Texas-based Transplace, a non-asset-based third-party logistics services provider and subsidiary of Uber Freight, rolled out a new addition to its Transplace Network Services offerings, with a new tech-enabled service—entitled OptiPro—that identifies cross-customer opportunities for both LTL (Less-than-Truckload) and partial truckload freight.

XPO Logistics posts record-breaking fourth quarter earnings results
Quarterly revenue—at $3.4 billion—increased 14% annually and was up 30% compared to 2010, representing the fourth straight quarter XPO’s revenue has set a new record, topping Wall Street estimates, of $3.269 billion. Adjusted earnings per share also set a new company record, at $1.34, and adjusted EBITDA, at $323 million, represented its highest fourth quarter level in company history, while posting a 15% annual gain, beating analysts’ estimates of $302 million, and setting a quarterly EBITDA record for the sixth quarter in a row.

Winnipeg, Manitoba-based Bison Transport, an asset-based freight transportation services provider owned by James Richardson & Sons, Limited, said it has acquired Bangor, Maine-based truckload carrier Hartt Transportation Systems Inc. Bison said it acquired 100% of the issued and outstanding shares of Hartt, but financial details of the transaction were not issued.

Shippers brace for higher truck rates amid ‘everything shortage’
Amid what one trucking analyst calls “an everything shortage,” shippers enter 2022 with heavy volumes of truck shipments bracing for continued higher ground freight rates. Those rates can run in the double-digit percentage increases—on top of 2021’s increases. Those increased freight rates tended to be upward of 10% for shippers whose freight did not match carriers’ needs in this sellers’ market.
