Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach each set volume records in October
October volumes at the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB) saw strong growth, according to data respectively issued by each port this week.

POLA, POLB volumes are mixed in September
POLA reported that total volume for the month, at 801,264 TEU (twenty-foot equivalents) saw a 4.9% annual gain, marking the best September volume output for in its 111 years of operation. POLB handled 701,204 TEU in September, which was essentially flat on an annual basis, with a 0.1% decline.

August volumes at the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB) were both down, according data recently released by the ports.

Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach post strong June volumes but tariff concerns remain intact
POLB handled 752,188 (TEU) Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units in June, which stands as the busiest volume month in its history and marks a 14.2% annual improvement. The previous best month was July 2017, which June 2018 surpassed by 4.4%. POLA handled 723,141 TEU in June, which was down 1.1% annually. But even with the decline, POLA officials said that this marks the second fiscal year period in which the port has topped the 9.1 million TEU mark, with 24 months of “record-breaking cargo movement.”

POLA and POLB May volumes are mixed but solid
POLA said it processed 768,804 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEU) in May, which is down 3% annually compared to May 2017’s record of 796,216 TEU. POLB May volumes shined, with the port saying its 687,427 TEU represents its highest-volume May ever recorded in the port’s history.

Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach report mixed April volumes
POLA handled 703,536 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) in April, which was down 1.3% annually compared to the 714,755 TEU recorded in April 2017, and POLB POLB April volumes were up 10.8% annually at 618,438 TEU. Imports saw an 8.4% annual gain to 312,376 TEU, and exports increased 22% to 141,799 TEU.

POLA and POLB report record February volumes
POLA said it processed 725,059 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEU) in February, which represents a 16% annual gain and the highest-volume February in the port’s 111 years of operation. POLB February volumes rose 32.8% to 661,790 TEU for an all-time high for the month, which comes on the heels of an all-time high in January of 657,830 TEU. POLB officials said that this marks the first time ever that POLB terminals handled more than 600,000 TEU in February.

Despite mixed volumes and fluctuating data points 2016 ended up being a good, and in some cases, great, volume year for the both the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB). POLA and POLB are the two largest North American ports, and they collectively account for more than 40 percent of U.S. imports.

POLA and POLB November volumes are mixed
Total November POLA volume at 877,564 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) posted a new all-time monthly record for the port, topping October’s 814,574 TEU, with November up 23.6 percent on an annual basis. POLB November volumes fell 13.8 percent annually to 534,308 TEU, with port officials citing shifting alliance routes and the Hanjin bankruptcy still impacting volumes.
