Total POLA September volumes were down 5.8 percent at 730,306 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) compared to September 2014, which was one of the strongest months in the port’s history, and POLB September volume was up 4.1 percent annually at 655,624 TEU.

Total October POLB volumes were up 1.1 percent year-over-year at 583,009 TEU, and POLA volumes in October were up 4.6 percent compared to October 2013 at 715,682 TEU.

With the holidays rapidly approaching, it appears retailers are not quite done getting inventory set up and on the shelves in time for what is expected to be a fairly active shopping season. That much was evident based on recent data for September volumes issued by the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB).

Volumes for the month of July at the Port of Long Beach (POLB) and the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) were mixed, according to data recently issued by the ports. Unlike May and June, which saw higher than usual seasonal volumes, due to the West Coast port labor situation, July was down as retailers had completed filling inventories for back-to-school shopping.

POLA reported that total volumes were up 13.89 percent annually at 736,438 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), which represents its highest TEU tally in a single month since September 2012, and POLB volumes were up 8 percent annually at 610,516 TEU, with June 2014 standing as the best June at the port since June 2007.

POLA kicked off 2014 with a 2.5 percent annual gain in January at 685,550 TEU, and POLB was down 1.4 percent annually at 528,884 TEU.

The two largest ports in the United States—the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB)—both reported volume gains for the month of November.

In a move geared towards bringing more volume to the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) in 2014, the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners said yesterday it has signed off on an incentive program that will reward shipping lines bringing new container business into POLA.

While total volume—at 710,892 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units)—cracked the 700,000 mark for the third straight month, September was down 4.57 percent annually.

POLA July volumes-at 562,166 TEU-were down 1.48 percent annually in July, and POLB was up 7.6 percent at 562,166 TEU.

June volumes at the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB) appear to be in line with the overall consensus that economic growth is moving along at a slow pace, even with some positive developments in the automotive and housing sectors.

Total volume—at 636,851 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) was down 12.9 percent annually. Imports for the month—at 326,114 TEU—decreased 12 percent, and exports—at 154,004 TEU—were down 16.3 percent. Empty containers—at 155,832 TEU—were down 11.2 percent.

Volumes at the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and Port of Long Beach (POLB) were strong year-over-year numbers in September but down somewhat on a sequential basis.
