Ryder System heralds new drop-and-hook trailer service

Company officials said that by leveraging capacity through Ryder’s peer-to-peer truck- and trailer-sharing platform, COOP by Ryder, its customers gain access to a fleet comprised of dry and refrigerated trailers, adding that COOP has more than 6,000 trailers listed throughout the country, with its inventory continuing to increase.

Following three years of investment from its engineers and data scientists, Seattle-based digital freight network Convoy announced today that it has introduced new automated drop-and-hook services for backup and spot freight through its Convoy Go offering, a drop & hook marketplace that enables any United States-based carrier or owner-operator to begin hauling pre-loaded trailers and be able to operate at the same level as large asset-based carriers, which was rolled out in 2019.

The new enhancements for Convoy Go include: predictive trailer routing, automated reloads with batched routes, and improved telematics in its smart trailers. And company officials said that Convoy Go was the first drop service to offer loads to tens of thousands of owner-operators and small carriers in 2017, improving capacity, and then expanding nationally in 2019, providing scale.
