DHL eCommerce Solutions, a subsidiary of global logistics services provider, Deutsche Post DHL Group, said it is investing more than $300 million into its United States-based operations over the next five years. Company officials said that this investment will up the square footage of the DHL eCommerce Solutions network by 70%, to more than 3 million square-feet.

DHL said its objective is to establish what it called an unparalleled electric Express network and make what it called a “pioneering step into a sustainable aviation future.” And it added that Evation’s Alice planes, as fully electric aircraft, enables both cargo and passenger airlines to operate a zero-emissions fleet, with DHL noting that Eviation has a 2024 target date to deliver the Alice aircraft to DHL.

In some recent correspondence I had with a friend at global express delivery and logistics services provider DHL, the subject of the logistics-related issues coming out of Asia was front and center, to be sure.

Global express delivery and logistics services provider DHL announced earlier this month that it is spending more than $360 million between 2020-2022, in an initiative focused on building new and expanding existing facilities in the America’s region, spanning the United States, Canada, Mexico, South and Central America and the Caribbean, coupled with investing millions of dollars into its Americas air network, for things like the introduction of new direct flight routes.

Global express delivery and logistics services provider DHL announced earlier this month that it has moved to a new location in Kansas City into a newly constructed state-of-the-art building, which is more than double the size of its previous location. The company invested $5 million into this new facility, noting that it increases its shipment capacity, enables faster equipment processing, and provides earlier delivery for its customers in the Kansas City area.

Sometimes taking a chance delivers a big payoff. That’s what happened when DHL partnered with a customer to setup and operate peel-and-seal packaging lines on short notice and helped sustainability long term.

DHL has long been on the front lines, in the logistics sector, as a company with a clear focus on sustainability and green logistics and freight efforts. The company explained today that it has had “ambitious sustainability targets” going back to 2008, and in 2017 it became the first logistics company to announce it had a set target focused on reducing its GHG to net zero by 2050.

With a sharp focus on meeting demand from its shipper customers in the technology, manufacturing, life sciences and healthcare sectors, DHL Global Forwarding, an air and ocean subsidiary of Deutsche Post DHL Group, said this week it has introduced an air freight charter that connects Asia Pacific to Europe and the United States, which will be a bi-weekly offering.

The new 150,000 square-foot Atlanta-based facility is based 20 miles away from the Atlanta Hartsfield Airport and has access to some of the main thoroughfares for “speedy air and ground parcel transportation.

The company announced that it will hire 7,000 associates through the end of 2020 to meet demand fueled both by the peak holiday shopping season and the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With an eye on helping shipper customers work through the myriad challenges presented by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, DHL Global Forwarding, an air and ocean subsidiary of Deutsche Post DHL Group, said this week it is taking steps to support more than 200 customers via its exclusive Multi-Modal Express (MMEX) service.
