July freight shipments and expenditures see declines, notes Cass Freight Index

July’s shipment reading—at 1.122—was down 8.9% annually and down 2.2% compared to June. July expenditures, at 3.423, were down 24.4% annually, in line with June’s 24.5% annual decline and were off 2.8% compared to June.
XPO adds capacity in Metro Atlanta region, with 46 LTL dock doors

Company officials said that this expansion will add 46 LTL dock doors in Georgia for XPO, which will allow XPO to handle more freight and “provide even better service to customers.” The Norcross service center currently employs more than 120 people, said XPO. And XPO said it expects to hire additional dockworkers and driver sales representatives. The company employs nearly 700 people across seven service centers in Georgia.

The Port of Los Angeles, the busiest in the nation, is “more fluid” than in the past year, has whittled the backlog of ships in the harbor by nearly 90% and is ready to take on even more business, port officials said.
