As Amazon Prime Day continues today, it comes at a time when the e-commerce supply chain continues to hum along and make needed adjustments on the fly, which has largely been the case going back to the onset of the pandemic in early 2020.

This marks a shift from Amazon’s longstanding tradition of leasing aircraft from Air Transport Services Group (ATSG), to operate its air cargo network to serve United States-based customers, and Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, whom provides air cargo services to support Amazon’s package deliveries to its customers.

Citing a source, the report said that this program, which is only currently available in only a few United States markets, is being suspended, due to Amazon needing “people and capacity to handle a surge in its own customers’ orders,” adding that Amazon plans to bring on 100,000 warehouse workers and is intent on “shipping essential items during the coronavirus outbreak.”

Data issued this week by two separate organizations for on-time performance of holiday shipments for week 49 and week 50 of 2019 showed that carriers are dealing with seasonal challenges and spikes, while on-time performance remained solid over all.

In case you have not noticed, there is really only way global e-commerce giant Amazon likes to do things: big. In fact, that may be the understatement of the year. The most recent reason, or example, of that stems from the Seattle company’s third quarter earnings announcement that was issued yesterday.

Earlier this month, I heard from iDrive Logistics, a Salt Lake City-based small package consultancy, regarding pricing proposals it had obtained from Amazon Logistics. Given the frenetic pace in which Amazon has gone about setting up its logistics and supply chain operations, as well as expand its presence, this grabbed my attention, to say the least.
