According to the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals’ 24th annual State of Logistics Report released today, logistics and supply chain managers are continuing to drive inefficiencies out of the business transportation system.

An efficient supply chain that speeds furniture to customers is a major competitive advantage for American furniture companies. Today, most furniture sold in the United States is imported, and much of it is purchased online. Such a lengthy supply chain increases the risks of damage, but those risks are present any time furniture is transported. Furniture companies eager to reduce costs understand that reducing damage is one important way to cut expenditures, improve efficiency, and increase customer satisfaction.

In the United States each year, nearly 11 million volunteers donate some 17 million units of whole blood and red blood cells, but much of that safe, transfuseable blood – about 2 percent – is discarded. A failed cold chain and poor management practices are the two greatest contributors to the loss. A comprehensive temperature monitoring strategy can resolve many of the issues that allow good blood to go bad, thus saving valuable resources.
