WSI’s Material Logistics & Services Subsidiary Selected for Company of the Year Award

Material Logistics & Services, LLC (MLS), a subsidiary of Top-100 logistics provider WSI, has been confirmed by an independent auditor as a Responsible Care® Partner for 2014-2016.

“We are very excited to have achieved our status as a Responsible Care® Partner,” stated WSI Director of Marketing Rob Kriewaldt. “This has been an eighteen-month process for us, and has involved thousands of hours of time and effort to accomplish.” The New Responsible Care Company of the Year Award recognizes new member and partner companies who have fulfilled their Responsible Care requirements ahead of schedule.

Responsible Care is a voluntary global initiative of the chemical industry, focused on protecting the environment while continuously improving performance along environmental, health, safety and security measures. The program, led by the American Chemistry Council (ACC), is the most comprehensive of its kind, driving performance beyond governmental regulatory compliance. Participants include more than 240 leading chemical manufacturers, as well as firms with direct involvement in the distribution, sale, transportation, storage, treatment and disposal of chemicals.

For over 25 years, Responsible Care companies have achieved significant success in improving environmental, health, safety and security performance. For example:

  • 76% reduction in hazardous emissions into the air, land and water from 1988-2011

  • 79% reduction in recordable injury/illness rates since 1990

  • 5x better worker safety record than the U.S. manufacturing sector; twice as safe as the chemical industry overall

  • 58% reduction in distribution incidents over the past 14 years

  • 12% increase in energy efficiency since 1992

Responsible Care partnership signifies an executive-level commitment to adhere to the program’s principles of safe and ethical chemical handling. The program features ongoing measurement and reporting, plus implementation of the Responsible Care Management System® to achieve and verify results via third-party audit. “We are extremely pleased to receive this independent verification 18 months after becoming a Responsible Care Partner. The independent verification is a key recognition of the MLS team’s efforts. We truly value safe work practices and continual improvement in our environmental, health, safety and security performance,” summarized Director of Corporate Safety Ryan Hannam.
