Shippers get some breathing room for Automated Commercial Environment compliance

"The revised approach should help importers better prepare for the decommissioning of the Automated Commercial System and final transition into ACE by the planned deadline of December 2016," says AfA executive director, Brandon Fried.

The U.S. Customs & Border Protection announced earlier this week that it will delay the implementation of some parts of its Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) electronic document single window platform beyond the current February 28th deadline.

After receiving feedback from the industry including the Airforwarders Association at the recent Commercial Operations Advisory Committee meeting in New Orleans, CBP announced a revised staggered approach that will require filers to file a broad range of entry types by this summer.

“The revised approach should help importers better prepare for the decommissioning of the Automated Commercial System and final transition into ACE by the planned deadline of December 2016,” says AfA executive director, Brandon Fried.

Meanwhile, the AfA will continue to monitor progress on the ACE transition and invites LM readers submit questions or comments.
