Modula, a part of Italian industrial conglomerate System Group, has announced the opening of its state-of-the-art factory in Lewiston, Maine.
From August 2015, Modula’s full line of products is made in the USA with global technology and components. Modula manufactures automated picking and storage solutions for factories and warehouses around the world. The company established its North American headquarters in Lewiston on a site covering more than 102,000 square feet of production and engineering space and housing a team of 50 people.
The plant is the second for Modula, with the first located in Italy. In the last two years, Modula’s revenues have increased by 93% from $30 million to $58 million worldwide, and total employment is at 250 people. This year, Modula committed an additional investment of $6 million in new manufacturing automation in Maine that will bring total investments in facility upgrades to $10 million.
According to a release, the decision to locate in Maine aligned with the evolving needs of US and Canada buyers who favored the lead time and support offered by providers with domestic manufacturing capabilities.
