GPS Tracking Keeps GE Capital Clients in Compliance

With the right fleet management system, most jurisdictions can achieve significant operational improvements that help lower costs and optimize fleet performance.

For fleet managers, it’s of the utmost importance to ensure that time is spent wisely while vehicles are on the road.

Through the use of telematics systems, businesses can obtain the necessary information to keep their fleets up to speed and in the good graces of regulatory agencies.

Partnership of GE Capital and Networkfleet Offers Compliance Solutions
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is constantly updating its compliance requirements, making it vital for vehicles and drivers to meet the latest regulations.

In an effort to better equip the business for upcoming compliance procedures, Verizon Networkfleet partnered with GE Capital Fleet Services to provide an electronic system to GE customers that can help handle the hours of service regulation requirements.

This contract between GE Capital Fleet Services and Networkfleet can help clients stay ahead of the curve by being armed with the information to keep drivers in compliance and on the road.

Maintaining driver activity logs and other compliance regulations may soon be required in order to remain in good standing with the Department of Transportation (DOT).

Driver Activity Logs Keep Fleets Ready for FMCSA Regulations
To meet the needs of clients, Networkfleet and J.J. Keller & Associates developed the trucking industry’s first integrated GPS fleet management solution that provides complete performance and compliance control to GE Capital Fleet Services customers.

This solution can give clients the power to manage data including electronic hours of service, driver vehicle inspection reports, and fuel taxes; this can also give fleets the opportunity to improve CSA scores and ensure DOT compliance. [Read full press release]

Truck fleets are subject to more regulations, so we are pleased to provide our customers with this technology,” Kim Clark, telematics products manager at GE Capital Fleet Services, said in a press release.

“This solution makes it easy for our customers to log driver activity that may soon be required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.”

Vehicle Tracking Can Reduce Violation Rates and Increase Safety
The system is part of a suite of services available with GE Capital Fleet Services’ Telematics Monitor product. It offers both geographic and diagnostic information in addition to specialty applications such as Trip Assignment ID, which can track vehicle activities through individual driver login information.

Telematics can provide opportunities for savings while making a real difference in fleet safety. A study performed by the Center for Truck and Bus Safety at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute discovered that vehicles fitted with electronic logs reported a 53 percent lower rate of driving-related hours-of-service violations. There was also a nearly 12 percent reduction in total crash rates and a more than 5 percent drop in the rate of preventable crashes.

These systems have the potential to greatly improve a business’ return by reducing the amount of time necessary for appointments while providing near-instant visibility of employees.

This allows managers to make informed schedule changes as they stay on the right side of the DOT.
