FORTE Reduces Tyco’s Inbound & Outbound Freight Costs through Optimized Transportation Modes

Tyco Safety Products network optimization provides a roadmap for supply chain strategy.

The Challenge
Tyco Safety Products is a market leading provider of electronic security and fire protection solutions in over 100 countries to a wide range of retailers.

Their global distribution footprint consisted of one 3PL facility in the greater Atlanta area. Tyco needed to validate the current network and assess what modifications should be made to increase service levels and decrease cost.

The Solution
FORTE, along with their affiliation with University of Cincinnati’s Center for Productivity Improvement, used their Network Analysis expertise and real-world experience to determine the optimal network design for Tyco.

FORTE looked at sourcing locations, ports of entry, mode selection and benchmark inbound and outbound freight costs to assess what DC footprint and other network modifications could further reduce costs and increase efficiency.

The Result
FORTE helped Tyco determine the savings range opportunity of a possible second DC location. They validated reduced inbound and outbound freight costs through optimized transportation modes.

It was confirmed that Tyco’s overall network was currently aligned with their objectives and they now understood the potential payback of this and other strategic initiatives.
