AIM Introduces VerifyReg solution for DSCSA compliances

Solution focuses on validating data markers in pharmaceutical products and packaging.

AIM Global, the leading authority on automatic identification technologies and industry standards for 50 years, has unveiled its newest industry solution: VerifyReg. This solution has been designed to align with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA).

VerifyReg focuses on validating the intricate code structures of both mandatory and preferred data markers found on pharmaceutical products and packaging, to support complete with the DSCSA's rigorous standards, AIM Global explained.

Tony Fonk, CEO of SpotSee, stated, “Regulations and standards can be convoluted and constantly evolving, so staying compliant is a significant challenge. VerifyReg enables our customers to sort through the clutter and confusion of data related to standards, compliance requirements, and quality assurance protocols.”

VerifyReg helps organizations including manufacturers, wholesalers, packagers, and dispensers stay ahead of the curve demonstrating their commitment to compliance and quality, AIM Global members added.

Glenn Spitz, Director of ID Engineering Verification Products at COGNEX, emphasized the tool's significance by saying, “The only way to be sure the codes are printing and scanning successfully is to use a barcode verifier that conforms to industry standards. By verifying your barcodes, you can be confident that your production process is working, and you can guarantee compliance with contract and industry requirements.”

With increasing global supply chain complexity, the DSCSA aims to create a transparent, electronic, and interoperable system. This is essential for tracing prescription drugs from their origin to the hands of consumers; protecting against counterfeit and illegitimate products. VerifyReg simplifies this process by ensuring each barcode or product identifier is accurate and in line with regulatory guidelines, according to AIM Global.

Patti Blessing from Zebra Technologies shared, “VerifyReg provides each stakeholder confidence that the tag format complies with all requirements and will support product traceability for a safer supply chain.”

Scott Austin of Zugang Consulting also praised the initiative: “Poor data can upset this truly valuable legislation implemented by the FDA. VerifyReg offers critical data integrity support to supply chain stakeholders and helps cement this leading-edge global initiative in supply chain trust and transparency.”

AIM CEO, Mary Lou Bosco is confident that VerifyReg will have a transformative impact on the industry, stating that “VerifyReg represents a new era in regulatory compliance and quality assurance solutions. With VerifyReg we’re not just simplifying standards, we’re elevating businesses to focus on what truly matters—delivering quality products and services while always standing on the right side of compliance.”

While in late August the FDA announced a one-year delay on its enforcement of the DSCSA's electronic tracking rules, until November 2024, to provide a year-long “stabilization period” to aid compliance, it's widely agreed now is the time to act on ensuring compliance.
