UPS said this week that it has added significant space to some of its North America-based distribution facilities, which the company increases the total size of its supply chain solutions network size by roughly 1.2 million square-feet. The company’s total global supply chain solutions network is comprised of 596 facilities and about 32.8 million square-feet. UPS offers various services at these facilities, including: warehousing and fulfillment inventory, transportation and returns management; custom kitting and packaging; and store-ready displays.

The Atlanta-based company’s management team made presentations based on theme of “Networked for Growth,” which was comprised of various plans geared towards future revenue and profitability.

In an effort to meet anticipated holiday season demand in the form of double-digit volume growth, the United States Postal Service (USPS) last week said that it plans to deliver packages seven days per week in major cities and volume areas, effective November 17 through Christmas Day, December 25.

The world’s largest package delivery company forecast it will deliver more than 585 million packages in December 2014, up 11 percent from a year ago.

Monday, December 22 is pegged as UPS's peak delivery day, as the company expects to deliver more than 34 million packages that day, adding that it expects to see six days in December top last year’s peak shipment day delivery record of 31 million packages.
