Even with great compensation, stability and a path for growth for years to come, job-seekers are turning to ridesharing and other positions over truck driving causing a huge driver shortage in the supply chain industry.

Landstar System, Inc., announced the winner of its Landstar Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway, the second truck given away in 2018.

With the worsening shortage of truck drivers, Walmart plans to double its spending on attracting and retaining drivers by year-end, the retailer wants to drum up interest in being a long-haul driver.

A new study by Dr. Steve Viscelli, a sociologist and trucking expert at the University of Pennsylvania, concludes that eroding job quality should be as serious a concern as job loss – and identifies public policies to ensure a future of good jobs in the industry.

Driverless trucks are on course to replace many of the best long-distance trucking jobs, while shifting the industry towards more low-wage gig jobs, but if we take proactive steps, automation could deliver efficient freight, family-supporting jobs, and healthy communities.
