2M ocean alliance is winding down, reports MSC and Maersk
Global ocean container carriers Geneva Switzerland-based MSC Shipping Company (MSC) and Copenhagen, Denmark-based Maersk A/S, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller-Maersk, said that they have reached a mutual agreement to terminate their 2M ocean alliance, a container shipping line vessel agreement in 2025.

Truck tonnage ekes out small gain to finish 2022, reports ATA
The ATA’s advanced Seasonally Adjusted (SA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index, for December, came in at 115.2 (2015=100), for a 0.4% gain over November, which was off 2.5% compared to October. ATA also noted that calendar year 2022 tonnage rose 3.4%, marking the highest annual increase going back to 2018.

DAT Truckload Volume Index highlights a strong end to 2022 spot market rates
December’s van freight TVI came in at 215, down 4% compared to November and down 3.6% annually. This reading was 5.9% higher than December 2020, as well as the second-highest December reading in record, according to DAT. And the refrigerated (reefer) TVI, at 167, was off 4.0%, from November to December, and down 1.2% annually, with the flatbed TVI off 11.8%, from November to December, and up 3.2% annually.

Intermodal volumes finish 2022 with declines, reports IANA
Total December volume—at 1,325,121—fell 7.8% annually, trailing November’s 1,390,155 units. Trailers—at 78,074—fell 28.4% compared to December 2021, below November’s 30.8% annual decline. Domestic containers—at 632,207—were off 8.2%. And all domestic equipment, which is comprised of trailers and domestic containers, fell 10.9%, to 710,281. ISO, or international containers, fell 3.8%, to 614,840.
