Now that we are officially into 2012, it is a good time to assess just how things stand in regards to what is ahead of us. Compared to recent years, the dismal 2009 comes to mind, it stands to reason that things could truly be much worse. But at the same time we have many things to be concerned about.

While freight shipments and expenditures were up annually, they were both down from September in another sign that the economic recovery is both gradual and unpredictable.

Despite data points that indicate the economy is firming, it may not always feel that way for shippers, especially these days. That was especially true with the recent release of the Shippers’ Condition Index (SCI) from FTR Associates.
