Manufacturers that have successfully transitioned to automated, highly-efficient processes certainly did not make these investments without giving careful thought to their supply chains and their ability to seamlessly move both supplies and finished goods.

AlixPartners 2016 annual survey of manufacturing and distribution companies serving North America and western Europe found that 69% say they consider near shoring a possible opportunity to meet US and European demand, this up from just 40% in last year’s analysis.

High-tech companies are making strategic shifts to their supply chain models to enable greater customer-centricity, meet changing consumer demand patterns and capture new growth opportunities. Findings come from the 4th annual global UPS Change in the (Supply) Chain survey, conducted by IDC Manufacturing Insights.

This year, the survey, conducted by IDC Manufacturing Insights, gathers insights from nearly 350 executives in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia, on their current and upcoming plans for driving change in the “chain.” The following pages of this executive summary reveal the top findings around areas where high-tech logistics executives prepare to skillfully shift gears in their supply chains.
