Commerce reported that October retail sales, at $526.5 billion, were up 0.3% compared to September and up 3.1% annually. NRF reported that October retail sales were up 0.2% from September to October on a seasonally adjusted basis and up 4.2% on an unadjusted basis.

While December retail sales saw a sequential decline, Commerce reported they were up 2.3% compared to December 2018. Total 2018 retail sales headed up 5% annually, to $6 trillion, according to Commerce, and total retail sales for the fourth quarter increased 3.7% annually.

Commerce reported that November retail sales, at $513.5 billion, were up 0.2% over October’s revised $512.4 billion and up 4.2% annually, and NRF reported that November retail sales increased 0.7% on a seasonally-adjusted basis from November and were up 5% on an unadjusted basis annually.

Commerce reported that October retail sales, at $511.5 billion, were up 0.8% compared to September, with a 4.6% increase compared to October 2017. Retail trade sales were up 0.9% compared to September and up 4.3% annually, and non-store retailers, which include e-commerce sales, rose 12.1%. NRF reported that October retail sales increased 0.4% compared to September, with a 5.6% annual increase on an unadjusted basis.

Department of Commerce and NRF data show slowing September retail sales
United States retail sales for the month of September posted slight sequential gains, the annual gains coming in higher, according to data issued today by the United States Department of Commerce and the National Retail Federation (NRF).

Commerce and NRF report August retail sales gains
Commerce reported that August retail sales, at $509 billion, were up 0.1% compared to July and were up 6.6% annually. NRF also reported a 0.1% gain from July to August, with its data excluding automobiles, gasoline stations, and restaurants. Compared to August 2017, it reported a 5% gain, with the economy continuing to show strength amid concerns over the trade war.
