The Airforwarders Association has applauded a U.S. House committee's approval of legislation to improve America's ports and waterways.

Having just presided over the Airforwarder Association’s annual conference in Las Vegas earlier this month, executive director, Brandon Fried shared his insights with Logistics Management's Executive Editor Patrick Burnson.

The era of air cargo transportation began with modern aviation in the early 20th century. Airlines across the country flew freight in the late 1920s, benefiting American businesses when they needed parts or merchandise as quickly as possible. The advent of air freight also allowed businesses to keep less inventory on hand.

In response to global challenges faced by most businesses throughout the past few years, freight forwarders have adjusted their business models in response to adverse economic demands.

Air cargo operators are not required to comply within this rule, as it would be too costly compared to the benefits generated in this portion of the industry, according to the FAA.
