Taking AGV Safety Outdoors with SICK’s New Safety Laser Scanner, outdoorScan3

For years, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and Automated Guided Carts (AGCs) have been implemented in industrial automation as a way to work more efficiently and provide added flexibility to production flow.

With a growing need for continuous improvement and automation, AGVs are being rapidly adopted in many industries. Whether used for pallet handling, trailer loading, or work-inprocess movement, the use of these vehicles increases productivity, while saving time and money.

AGVs also help to reduce the number of worker injuries as they have the capability to carry items of all sizes, from lightweight to heavy loads. By having AGVs/AGCs do simple, repetitive tasks, it enables manufacturers to better utilize employees for more rewarding and complex tasks.

The majority of AGVs on the market are used in the automotive industry, according to Reuters. But many other industries take advantage of these vehicles to provide greater efficiency in a number of applications. But in recent years, there has been an increasing need to use AGVs in outdoor applications.
