RadioShack Boosts Distribution Center Productivity with Intelligrated Pick-to-Light System

Retail giant consolidates two DCs into one super-efficient, smaller-footprint operation

The RadioShack Corporation has come a long way since it opened its first audio equipment showroom in 1947. Over the years, the retail giant has become a leading national retailer of innovative mobile technology products and services, as well as products related to personal and home technology, and power supply needs. Today, with more than 7,000 stores and kiosks across the country, the company is a ubiquitous feature of American retail culture.

RadioShack has three regional DCs in California, Maryland and Texas to meet the demands of its customer base. The Fort Worth, Texas, facility is particularly important because it also serves as the company’s national distribution headquarters — the nerve center of its DC network.

Designing a big solution for a small footprint
The Fort Worth DC ships a broad range of parts, batteries and accessories to RadioShack stores and kiosks across the U.S. In addition to serving the company’s national retail network, the DC also ships directly to RadioShack.com customers and to RadioShack International franchises in 29 countries. Every week, at least one order is shipped to each RadioShack store, and on a typical day, the DC moves about 22,000 cartons in and out of the facility.
