Universal Robots Adds Cobot Systems Integrators, to Demonstrate ActiNav Picking Across the U.S.

Universal Robots plans to demonstrate flexible machine loading at live events and has added four ActiNav Solutions Partners.

Automating machine loading traditionally means integrating conveyors, bowl feeders, custom trays, shaker tables, or various other components and processes. These approaches can lead to a range of obstacles, including complex programming and setup, poorly used manpower, inefficient machine utilization, and decreased output, according to Universal Robots A/S.

Universal Robots said its ActiNav product combines intelligent vision and sensor software with autonomous motion control of collaborative robot arms in one Application Kit. The Odense, Denmark-based company claimed that ActiNav can solve the random bin-picking challenge in machine tending applications.

To give manufacturers an opportunity to experience ActiNav firsthand, Universal Robots plans to host live demonstrations with its systems integrator partners. The cobot leader has invited attendees to bring their parts to be picked so they can see how easy it is to set up a sophisticated machine-loading system.

“We want manufacturers to experience in person the “wow factor” as they see ActiNav effortlessly pick their randomized parts and place them correctly in a designated place,” said Bryan Bird, regional sales director at Universal Robots’ North America division in Ann Arbor, Mich. “We look forward to working with our partners in providing this unique experience.”

Integrators join ASP network

In addition to seeing ActiNav on tour, manufacturers can now meet Universal Robots' expanded network of ActiNav Solution Providers (ASPs). The company, which has installed more than 50,000 cobots worldwide, said the network consists of carefully selected systems integrators across the U.S. that will deploy its machine-loading system.

The following companies are joining Universal Robots' ASP network:

Universal Robots focused on integrators that have expertise in both vision and robotics and that could deliver superior-value, on-time, and within-budget projects for customers, explained Bird.

Dan Carney, general manager at PCC Robotics, said he looks forward to sharing the benefits of ActiNav with manufacturers in his region.

“As a systems integrator, we find parts staging to be a key component of nearly every application,” he said. “We have reviewed a number of bin-picking offerings, and ActiNav is simply in a different class.”
