Johns Creek, Georgia-based multi-regional less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier Saia recently announced it has set up shop with a new terminal in the Chicago area, in Franklin Park, Illinois.
Company officials said that this marks Saia’s fifth Chicagoland-area location, as well as the third it has opened in Illinois in 2022.
“As the demand for shipping in Chicago, a major freight market for us, continues to grow, we’ll be able to support it,” said Saia Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Ray Ramu in a statement. “We are focused on expanding our presence in the area by multiplying our operations through increased doors, manpower, and equipment—all to better serve our customers. An investment like this brings us closer to the shipper, which supports our ‘Customer First’ core value, and it allows us to better service the market and create more flexibility in our operations. Saia’s outstanding service, in each additional location, is an indication of the support we’ve received from our customers and the success of our expansion strategy.”
Saia said that this new terminal is the largest facility it has opened in 2022, adding that with 100 employees, the company made major investments to modernize the terminal. It also said that this terminal will support the local economy through jobs and by providing transportation services to hundreds of shippers operating throughout the customer-dense region. Saia also noted that it plans to open other terminals throughout the Midwest through the end of 2022.
In early August, Saia opened up a new terminal in the Binghamton, New York area, and in late June, it opened up two Georgia-based terminals, in Macon and Valdosta.
