The national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline fell for the fourth consecutive week, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
The national average, at $3.894 per gallon, fell 5.3 cents, below the $3.947 national average, for the week of April 29, which was off 4.5 cents compared to the $3.992 average, for the week of April 22. The national average for the week of April 15, at $4.015, dropped 6.5 cents compared to the week of April 8, at $4.015. That was preceded by a 6.5-cent increase, to $4.004, for the week of April 8, which was preceded by 3.8-cent decline, to $3.996, for the week of April 1, and a slight 0.006-cent increase, to $4.034, for the week of March 25, and a 2.4-cent increase, to $4.028, for the week of March 18.
This week’s national average represents the fourth time in the last six weeks that the national average has come in below the $4 per gallon mark. And prior to the week of April 1, the average price per gallon had not been less than $4 per gallon for seven weeks, from an average of $4.109, for the week of February 12, to an average of $4.034, for the week of March 25, according to EIA data.
Compared to the same week a year ago, the national average was down 2.1 cents, bellow the annual decreases over the prior two weeks, at 7.1 cents and 8.5 cents.
The average price per barrel of WTI crude is currently trading at $77.61 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, down from an $81.90 reading a week ago at this time.
