National diesel average falls for second straight week, reports EIA
The national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline headed down for the second straight week, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
This week’s average—at $3.037—fell 2.7 cents, following a 1.5-cent decline to $3.064 for the week ending January 13. The last two weeks of declines were preceded by a 1.0-cent increase to $3.079 for the week of January 6 over the $3.069 recorded for the week of December 30. This followed a 0.005-cent decline from the week of December 16, at $3.046, to the week of December 23, at $3.041.
On an annual basis, this week’s average is up 7.2 cents, trailing last week’s 8.8-cent annual spread.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil is currently trading at $58.64 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, which is in line with last week’s levels.
