Modex 2012: System-based approach to unit load design at Millwood

Taking a systems-based approach to unit load design will reduce costs while boosting sustainability, said Ralph Rupert, manager of unit load technology at Millwood (Booth 2305) in a press conference yesterday.

Taking a systems-based approach to unit load design will reduce costs while boosting sustainability, said Ralph Rupert, manager of unit load technology at Millwood (Booth 2305) in a press conference yesterday.

“Frequently, the materials handling systems and packaging elements used to support a unit load are designed independently,” Rupert said. “Applying science and technology to develop the complete package of equipment, pallet, film, corrugated and other materials takes into account how each component works together.”

The company offers a systems-based approach to the redesign of industrial packaging. To verify proof-of-concept, Millwood is investing in the development of an on-site unit load test lab that will operate under both ASTM and ISTA guidelines. “We recognize that it’s critical to test a design up front prior to implementation to verify that it will not only work, but provide the savings we anticipate,” added Rupert.

Modex 2012 is scheduled to be held February 6-9, 2012 in Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center. The tradeshow will showcase the latest manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the material handling and logistics industry. Modern’s complete Modex 2012 coverage.
