Industry celebrates National Manufacturing Day

Fourth annual Manufacturing Day is a grassroots effort by U.S. manufacturers to improve the public perception of manufacturing in America by coordinating awareness-raising activities at a variety of locations across the country.

Across the country today, customers, suppliers, educators and students are recognizing Manufacturing Day by taking a moment to reflect on the value of manufacturing to the United States economy.

Two years after President Obama declared October 3rd National Manufacturing Day, the occasion has more than quadrupled its participation and event count. In the last year alone, an additional 1,000 events were listed on mfgday.com, for a total of more than 2,600.

Through a series of educational outreach programs, facility tours, and business partnerships, both leaders and newcomers will have an chance to learn about career opportunities, training and resources in domestic manufacturing. These events and others will work to improve the public perception of manufacturing careers with an eye toward reducing the skilled labor shortage, which is just one item among a list of challenges and possibilities facing the industry.
