The national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline was up for the second time in three weeks, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
With a $0.10-cent gain, this week’s national average came in at $2.396 per gallon. This followed a 0.004-cent decline to $2.386 per gallon, for the week ending June 1, and a 0.004-cent increase to $2.390 per gallon, for the week ending May 25. Prior to the week ending May 25, the national diesel average had been down for 19 consecutive weeks, dropping 69 cents over that period.
The national diesel average has been below the $3 per gallon mark since the week ending February 2, when it posted an average of $2.956.
On an annual basis, this week’s diesel average is down 70.9 cents, below the 75.0-cent cent and 76.1-cent annual declines, respectively, over the previous two weeks.
West Texas Intermediate Crude is currently trading at $37.99 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
