In this episode, Stephanie Rodriguez discusses the requirements that go into selecting commercial buildings for businesses. So many of the requirements include aspects of supply chain and logistics that it is very important for supply chain professionals to have input into the decision, particularly with the coming manufacturing supercycle. The U.S. government’s investment dollars in manufacturing are coming from the three enormous funding bills passed by Congress in the past two years. This money is fueling the expected manufacturing supercycle requiring new facilities.

Things like enough space around the shipping docs for delivery trucks, 18-wheelers, and container trucks to back in, ceiling heights to accommodate racking, high-speed and redundant internet connections, are just a few of the potential building requirements. Access to highways, rail heads, airports, and seaports are a few more considerations. For these reasons, supply chain people need to be involved in commercial real estate decisions.
