Aerobotix Partners With Automated Solutions Australia to Solve Hypersonic Coating Challenge

Aerobotix and ASA have been working on robotics to coat hypersonic systems for the U.S. and Australian defense sectors.

Aerobotix today said it recently welcomed a delegation from new partner company Automated Solutions Australia, or ASA, to its headquarters in Huntsville, Ala. The robotics integrators have been developing, testing, and manufacturing automated performance-coating robots for hypersonic systems in the defense sector.

“Aerobotix teaming up with ASA means our companies now have sovereign capability in both the U.S. and Australia,” said Josh Tuttle, business development manager at Aerobotix. “We can work with the U.S. State Department for approval of any technology transfer for ASA, and ASA can assist Aerobotix in fast-tracking our technology to Australian shores.”

Aerobotix said it specializes in the creation of innovative automation for high-value, high-precision components, aircraft, and vehicles. The company has installed more than 130 robots installed in the U.S. and abroad. Last year, it partnered with FerRobotics Gmbh to build an automated sander.

Automated Solutions Australia builds local industry

Aerobotix and Automated Solutions Australia first announced their partnership in June 2022.

“Since the partnership was announced, Australian customers have told us they’re excited about ASA being able to offer the latest U.S. robotic innovations for hypersonic performance coatings,” said Nathan Jones, general manager of ASA. “Visiting Aerobotix HQ in Alabama allowed us to take a hands-on deep dive into the technology we’re bringing Down Under.”

In addition to spending time in Alabama, Jones travelled with Aerobotix to the Defense Manufacturing Conference in Tampa, Fla., in December.

ASA claimed that it helps its clients compete globally by “bringing world-class, flexible robotic automation to Australian shores.” The company, which has been in operation for 21 years, has offices in Adelaide and Melbourne.

ASA said its team of engineers addresses clients' needs and provides systems using FANUC industrial robots in the Australian aerospace, defense, automotive, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing industries.

Aerobotix partnership follows U.S., U.K., and Australian alliance

Aerobotix and Automated Solutions Australia said their partnership follows the 2021 signing of the AUKUS security pact between the U.S., U.K., and Australian governments. The agreement includes provisions for the allies to work together on hypersonic and counter-hypersonic capabilities.

“Aerobotix and ASA have strong synergies because we’re both turnkey robotics integrators with specialized capabilities in the precise application of paints and performance coatings,” he said.

“Aerobotix has already used robotics to scan, sand, measure and coat hypersonic solutions on multiple successful programs,” he added. “Working together with ASA on international projects will significantly reduce costs, delays, and program risks.”
