AAR reports gains for week ending June 14

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported this week that both carload and intermodal volumes were up for the week ending June 14.

Carloads were up 2.2 percent at 295,132 and topped the week ending June 7 at 292,924 and the week ending May 31 at 289,633.

Intermodal volumes saw their single highest week ever at 270,243 containers and trailers and were up 6.3 percent annually. It outpaced the week ending June 7 at 269,823 and the week ending May 31 at 242,092.

Of the 10 carload commodities tracked by the AAR, nine were up for the week ending June 14. Grain was up 22.3 percent, and petroleum and petroleum products were up 13.2 percent.

For the first 24 weeks of 2014, carloads are up 3.2 percent annually at 6,858,695 and intermodal is up 5.8 percent at 6,103,121 trailers and containers.
