A. Duie Pyle rolls out new West Virginia-based service center

Earlier this week, Westchester, Penn.-based freight transportation and supply chain services provider A. Duie Pyle announced it has formally set up shop in West Virginia, opening up a new LTL (less-than-truckload) service center in Charleston.

Company officials said this is A. Duie Pyle’s first service center in West Virginia, even though it has provided service for shippers there throughout the last year.

“The new service center enables us to strengthen service to our existing West Virginia customer base, and we look forward to the growth opportunities it brings,” said John Luciani, COO of LTL Solutions at A. Duie Pyle. “By expanding our geographical footprint and providing industry-leading expertise and coverage to the West Virginia area, it will better position us to continue offering exceptional service throughout the entire Northeast region.”

The new six-door service center is located at 3 McJunkin Road, Nitro, Charleston, WV, 25143. The company said that the LTL service center has expanded Pyle’s footprint westward, making it able to service more customers. What’s more, this new service center follow’s the company’s expansion into the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2022, where it opened LTL service centers in Richmond, Manassas and Roanoke.

In an interview, Luciani said that the West Virginia opening was a strategic event for Pyle.

“We service more points direct that any other carrier in our operating area,” he said. “Like other service center openings, customer demand was the ultimate motivation in providing full state coverage in West Virginia. With our new facility in Charleston, we are able to provide greater operating flexibility to our customers, meaning earlier deliveries and later pick-ups, while providing the consistent and reliable delivery service all Pyle customers have come to expect.”

And he added that the company previously serviced this region through a combination of longer P&D routes and the use of a strategic delivery partner in the area.

When the company initially rolled out service in West Virginia in December 2022, it said that it was expanding its supply chain services to strengthen routes and transport goods in West Virginia, as well as increases its service commitment to shippers by expanding access to key areas and clients across the state. And they noted that by adding West Virginia to its service footprint, it completes the company’s Northeast/Mid-Atlantic core footprint.

Luciani told LM, at the time of the initial expansion, that there were various drivers for the company’s West Virginia expansion, citing how new and existing customer were asking for a reliable and award-winning LTL (less-than-truckload) solution into and out of West Virginia.

“Adding full state coverage in West Virginia had been a strategic initiative for Pyle, and as we have done with other geographic expansions through our 98 years in business, we let our customers guide us based on their service and quality needs,” he said. “Additionally, we have had an operational initiative in place over the past few years to reduce our reliance on final-mile cartage carriers in order to improve our customers’ Pyle supply chain experience.  Finally, a review of industry data for shipments moving into and out of West Virginia zip codes provided the last bit of support to move forward by providing full state delivery and pick-up service by the Pyle team.”

Prior to that expansion, Luciani said that Pyle did very little inbound and outbound business for the state of West Virginia.

“After expanding our direct service offering into the Commonwealth of Virginia in April 2022, it made perfect sense to add West Virginia and complete our network expansion to include comprehensive coverage to all of the states in the Northeast, including West Virginia,” he said.
