A. Duie Pyle opens up new facility in Bangor, Maine

Westchester, Penn.-based freight transportation and supply chain services provider A. Duie Pyle has taken steps to increase its presence in New England, announcing this week it has opened up a new Bangor, Maine-based facility.

Company officials said that this new facility, which is located at 335 Industrial Drive, Pittsfield, ME, 04967, represents the first expansion of the year, with 2024 marking the company’s 100 years of operations. And they added that this new Bangor facility will extend access to Pyle’s LTL, warehouse and distribution and dedicated freight capabilities, in turn providing the company with the ability to serve more customers in the Bangor area. In tandem with its Portland, Maine-based LTL service center, the addition of this facility enables A. Duie Pyle to provide more comprehensive, full-service center coverage throughout Maine, the company said.

“We’re kicking 2024 off with a bang, as this new facility enables us to solidify our industry-leading presence across the Northeast,” said John Luciani, COO of LTL Solutions at A. Duie Pyle, in a statement. “This strategic addition to our network brings a higher level of LTL, dedicated and warehouse and distribution support to our customers in Central and Northern Maine. This opening is the first of a series coming down the pipeline this year that will further enhance our strong service center network and expand our capabilities to service more customers.”

The new Bangor facility is comprised of eight drivers, two dockworkers, and two managers. By the end of this year, the company said the facility is expected to have 12 drivers, four dockworkers, two fleet technicians, and three managers.

Frank Granieri, COO of Supply Chain Solutions at A. Duie Pyle, told LM that the decision to open a new facility in Bangor was driven by a combination of factors.

“First, there was a growing demand for LTL shipping services in the region, indicating a clear need for a high-quality carrier,” he said. “Bangor, allows us to better serve our customers in the Northeast, providing improved access to rural areas. Additionally, this expansion aligns with our commitment to continuously improve and expand our network to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”

As for the biggest benefits of this new facility for shippers, Granieri explained it enhances shipment reliability, which is crucial for businesses managing just-in-time inventory, adding that the facility's advanced technology and larger capacity allow for more efficient handling and tracking of shipments.

“It also serves to expand our network, improving connectivity between the Mid-Atlantic and New England, which translates to more flexible and responsive shipping options for our customers,” he noted.

Before the opening of the Bangor facility, Granieri said A. Duie Pyle served shippers in the area through its Portland, ME facility.

“While this arrangement provided coverage, it often involved longer transit times and less direct routes,” he said. “The new facility allows us to offer improved service and faster, more reliable connections, greatly enhancing our service quality in the area.”

In July 2019, A. Duie Pyle opened up a new integrated logistics center in Saco, Maine.

Company officials said that the driver for this new location was to provide the company with the opportunity to be closer to its shipper customers in Maine and northern New Hampshire. And they added that Pyle will offer customized less-than-truckload (LTL) and Custom Dedicated operations out of the facility, which it said will provide greater flexibility and higher service levels for shippers in this region.
