All Warehouse Management Software is Created Equal and Other Myths of Buying a WMS

In this paper, we dispel a few myths that are rife in the buying process of a warehouse management system and walk you through the process of identifying your functional needs and setting a budget in the process.

Purchasing a Warehouse Management System

Purchasing a Warehouse Management System is a big decision. Many people haven’t even purchased a house that costs as much as the software.

The search process can be a little overwhelming because a WMS purchase and the succeeding implementation involve thousands of details that are easy to overlook.

Add to that the fact that each WMS supplier’s opinion will be a bit self-serving, and it becomes apparent that you need to do your homework. After all, you don’t know what you don’t know.

There are plenty of resources available to walk you through the process of identifying your functional needs and setting a budget in the process of finding a WMS, and you can refer to those for the nuts and bolts.

All Warehouse Management Software is Created Equal and Other Myths

Myths:

  • All WMS software is created equal.
  • What you see in the demo is what is in the product.
  • I don’t need all the features in a tier 1 system and the tier 2 system is a lot cheaper.
  • A tier 1 system is going to take too long to implement.
  • This provider offers a turnkey solution, so everything is included.
  • Our enterprise system has a warehouse module that will work for our needs.
  • The implementation process is the same across providers.
  • The software vendor will handle the implementation, so we can go on with business as usual.

Find a partner who has implemented the most current version of the WMS you intend to buy and who has a proven methodology for implementations in your industry for systems that are delivered on time and on budget.
