Visual Supply Chain Digital Signage Solution

RMG Networks Visual Supply Chain provides managers with interactive project management dashboards capable of supporting complex sets of critical real-time information.

RMG Networks, a leading provider of Digital Out-of-Home media and digital signage solutions technology, has released Visual Supply Chain, its new digital signage solution for supply chain operations.

Visual Supply Chain is a complete package of software, hardware, business apps and services for improving productivity and communication at supply chain operations of all sizes.

RMG’s Visual Supply Chain displays real-time performance data that helps supply chain operations increase efficiency, motivate worker performance and deliver KPIs to the desktop, mobile device or to employee-facing digital signage for continuous process improvement. Data from multiple sources can be integrated, aggregated and synthesized to support process practices like Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, TQM and others.

Research studies have shown that the use of advanced digital signage solutions for real-time information display increases productivity. A study by Manufacturing Plant found that warehouses with digital signage systems enjoyed a 20% boost in manufacturing productivity with concurrent reductions in slash defects, rework and scrap. DC Customer reported a 10.3% increase in productivity by distribution centers immediately following introduction of real-time scoreboards.

Visual Supply Chain’s unique mobile capabilities allow executives and managers to monitor real-time changes in their businesses on-demand and on the go from their smart phones. From shift-level data in distribution centers to executive dashboards in manufacturing plants, Visual Supply Chain delivers customizable data alerts to decision makers helping reduce response times and increase operational efficiencies.

“Being able to communicate with our employees in manufacturing and business centers around the globe is a must for Eastman. Utilizing RMG Networks digital signage, we can now reach many of our employees that don’t have quick access to the corporate intranet and email,” said Ed Montgomery, Corporate IT Architect, Eastman Chemical Company.

RMG Visual Supply Chain solutions offer more than Key Productivity Indicators on the floor. Using advanced Data Visualizations plugins, project management data including task completion and resource utilization information, can be extracted from customer systems and graphically displayed in real-time in front of production employees. Coupled with RMG’s multi-touch screens, Visual Supply Chain provides managers with interactive project management dashboards capable of supporting complex sets of critical real-time information. RMG’s weather and news plugins provide supply chain customers with the added flexibility of expanding the value of the system by displaying relevant information in common areas like break rooms, lobbies and office areas.

“Top industry influencers have found time and again that clear, strong visual communication of data increases productivity and awareness in supply chain settings,” said Garry McGuire, Chief Executive Officer, RMG Networks. “Integrating and visualizing critical data streams in real-time and allowing it to be easily understood by everyone along the supply chain process creates opportunities to improve ROI, cut costs and develop competitive advantage.”

For over 15 years, RMG Networks has offered digital signage solutions for supply chains. Many leading companies use RMG technology to drive their supply chain operations including Eastman Chemical Company, Roche, Toyota and Mosaic.

Supply Chain Visibility at Manhattan Momentum 2014
Ben Johnston

With the promise of a service like same day delivery come enormous pressures on supply chain managers and workers to know the pulse of their business at every minute and work in absolute lock-step toward their production goals. Enter software platforms. Of course Manhattan Associates’ software helps provide 3PL companies and retail distributors this type of full supply chain (network) visibility. But often times this visibility comes in the form of dashboards and reports that may only be available to workers at desktops or laptops. Additionally, some reports and dashboards – by their inherent nature – are old by the time they are viewed. They represent what happened, not what is happening.

I spoke with several conference attendees who lamented the fact that these type of reports many times just have to be “good enough” for running their operations but admittedly lack a real-time view of exactly what’s going on in their distribution center. I also heard that information from reports and dashboards often fail to make it to the right sets of eyes - the pickers, packers, shippers, and line employees who make good on a business’ promise to deliver. Providing them with visual real-time statistics (and goals) can help lift supply chain productivity and efficiency. Ultimately that improvement in productivity is what helps get a package out the door quicker and those boots to my daughter faster. And that type of visibility improves a consumer’s experience with a brand.

Visual Supply Chain solutions that integrate with supply chain platforms like Manhattan Associates provide needed visibility in warehouses, DCs, shipping docks, and DTC fulfillment centers and help supply chain managers’ visualize and react to key metrics and goals.

So when talking about the supply chain “visibility”, let’s not forget the important audience that Visual Supply Chain solutions serve – the untethered workers. Because your supply chain network isn’t truly visible until all the participants can see it.
