Modex 2012: Smoov automated storage solution introduced at Modex

Smoov ASRV (Booth 4109), an Italian company specializing in the design and manufacture of automation systems for storage and handling, introduced a new automated storage system using storage vehicles that can maneuver pallets on the X,Y and Z axis.

“While we have a number of systems up and running in Italy, this is a new concept in the materials handling of palletized loads in North America,” said Giovanni Noto, business development director.

While traditional AS/RS use cranes, the ASRV system employs a radio-controlled, high-speed vehicle dedicated to the storage, retrieval and handling of the loads.

The small units, known as ASRV or automated storage and retrieval vehicles, perform as a fleet, working together to satisfy the overall handling demand.

Compact and wireless, these ASRVs move autonomously to perform the assigned tasks managed by the control supervisor unit, gliding horizontally along rails that are inserted into the racking and vertically by means of a lift, to enable the storage and retrieval of loads inside the warehouse.

The ASRV can operate as a vehicle used for warehouse automation and for general materials handling applications, delivering impressive performances based on advanced features such as reliability, scalability and cost effectiveness.

The system is engineered as a modular and scalable solution.

When order volume increases, it can be expanded by adding more ASRVs, which are plug and play.

“The ASRV upsets the traditional logic of automation for intralogistics and materials handling to make it available to everyone,” Noto said. “It can be applied to all environments, whether they are small, large or complex.”

Modex 2012 is scheduled to be held February 6-9, 2012 in Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center. The tradeshow will showcase the latest manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the material handling and logistics industry. Modern’s complete Modex 2012 coverage.
