Nike has big plans for the UK. The sports and apparel leader secured a 20-year lease for a new 1.3 million square foot logistics campus at Magna Park, Corby. The new facility, which will be the company's first standalone logistics campus in the UK, will house logistics warehousing, offices, and sports and recreation facilities within a single building, and is set to become the principal hub of Nike’s UK supply chain.
Bruce Topley, UK managing director at GLP, said in a statement: “This new site will help boost skills and generate high-quality jobs. The industry-leading, bespoke building will minimize carbon footprint and embed health and well-being. This investment is a great vote of confidence in the East Midlands and will help propel much-needed long-term growth across the region.”
Nike representatives say the new facility will “be designed with wellness in mind,” and will feature a range of wellness-focused amenities such as running tracks, outdoor gyms, multi-use game areas, and a nature trail, emphasizing the sportswear giant's focus on health and wellbeing.
Continuing with Nike's commitment to sustainability, the new facility is targeting a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ certification and net zero carbon in construction.
The initiative follows a modest increase in Nike's third-quarter revenues, despite a 3 percent drop in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Earlier, Nike announced plans to cut nearly 2% of its workforce as part of a broader strategy to achieve $2 billion in cost savings over three years. This development represents a significant investment in the East Midlands, poised to bolster long-term regional growth and enhance Nike's operational capabilities in the UK.
