FORTE helps Lenox Consolidate 4 Major DC’s & 16 Satellite Facilities into One DC Facility

As a leading manufacturer of consumer fine china, crystal, flatware and giftware, Lenox® wanted their distribution operation to be handled with care.

The Challenge
Lenox needed to consolidate four major distribution centers and 16 satellite facilities into one facility to eliminate redundant operations, lower labor and transportation costs, and improve customer service levels.

The Solution
FORTE designed and implemented a new 500,000 sq. ft. distribution center in Hagerstown, Maryland. A WMS needs analysis was performed, as well as vendor evaluation and selection. The WMS was then integrated with the highly automated material handling system utilizing FORTE’s Automation Director™ warehouse control system (WCS) software.

The Result
Consolidated shipments decreased shipping and transportation costs while reducing labor costs by 23%. The elimination of redundant operations through cross-docking and kitting increased operational efficiency. Picking and shipping accuracy is greater than 99%.

“There is no doubt in our minds that the Lenox Hagerstown distribution center will be a world-class operation for years to come.” Lenox
