DHL opens up its second Denver-area facility

Global express delivery and logistics services provider DHL said this week it has opened up its second facility in the Denver metropolitan area.

This facility is located near Denver’s north-south artery at 10075 E 40th Ave. DHL said it invested $9.6 million into this facility, which it said is comprised of almost 56,000 square-feet of combined warehouse and office space, coupled with 60 positions for vehicles to load and unload shipments around its conveyable sort system. The other Denver-based DHL facility is located at 26200 E 75th Ave. and is within the Denver International Airport.

The company said that the new location, which is closer to Denver’s downtown “commercial core,” allows it to provide customers with earlier deliveries and increased shipment capacity for importers and exporters. What’s more, it added that the new facility is staffed by 55 dedicated couriers and operational personnel, and through advanced material handling system, the new facility can process up to 5,025 pieces per hour. DHL added that the facility is also equipped to eventually introduce electric pickup and delivery vehicles, a key component of DHL parent company Deutsche Post DHL Group’s sustainability roadmap, with an eye on having 60% of its global delivery fleet to be electrically powered by 2030.

The new facility also handles U.S. domestic as well as time-definite international shipments to and from the 220 countries and territories served by DHL while also providing another ServicePoint for its customers to drop off and pick up shipments locally.

“Denver is a thriving area with a diverse mix of industries and one of the fastest growing international airports, making it an ideal location for global trade,” said Aaron Jones, VP and GM, Mountain / Southwest Area for DHL Express U.S., in a statement. “As the market grows, DHL is committed to growing with it and providing our customers the highest, most efficient level of service. Our investment in this new strategically located and advanced facility in Denver reflects our commitment to international trade and the growing needs of customers.”

A DHL spokesman told LM that the main driver in opening up this new facility was due to the company outgrowing its current facility.

“[We] determined another facility near the metro Denver area would be the best way to serve our increasing customer volumes while sustaining our high levels of service,” he said. “The new facility enables DHL couriers to get out their scheduled routes 45 minutes earlier, so customers are already seeing the benefits of earlier deliveries in the metro area.”
