We all have seen Boston Dynamics Inc.‘s videos showcasing its Atlas humanoid robots doing backflips and other parkour tricks. The Waltham-based company has been building the robot for more than a decade. It was initially developed for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. It features 28 hydraulic joints, can travel up to 2 miles per second, and weighs 89 kg (196 lb.). Boston Dynamics said the robot takes advantage of “behavior libraries, real-time perception and model-predictive control.”
