Mobility Offers Optimal Workforce Planning for an Organization

More and more employers want their employees to take charge of their plans, their shifts, their holidays. Sound like a pipe dream? Bernd Horsman says it’s possible with mobility ― a key trend in workforce planning today.

Quick response time is important. So are utilization and efficiency. I remember a visit I made years ago to a rail traffic control outpost. I saw people sitting around drinking coffee. Nothing much was happening.

  • “What do you do?” I asked one of the men.
  • “I drive the train.”
  • “When is the train coming?”
  • “Three hours from now.”
  • “And what are you doing in the meantime?”
  • “Drinking coffee.”

That was clearly a case of inefficient planning, which resulted in over-capacity — long gaps when the drivers had no work to do.

Quintiq Workforce Planner ensures the workforce is utilized optimally by assigning the right people to the right place, at the right time. In an employee portal, for instance, we can see the schedule, the planning of shifts, employee preferences and labor law
compliance. We can also see under- or over-capacity.
