UPS Fees and the Highway Bill Update

UPS announced a 2.5% fee this week that will be tacked on to third party parcel shipments and, Congress is moving along on a long term Highway Bill even though they have only figured out how to fund the first 3 years of a 6 year bill.

Watch the video above.

Two big changes are underway in the logistics industry.

The first is the announcement by UPS that they’re going to add a 2.5% fee increase for 3rd party shipments.

If you have questions about how this will play out, we encourage you to get in touch with our parcel experts.

We also have a dynamite tool that can evaluate how this and other parcel changes will impact your specific parcel spend - it’s called the Parcel Toolbox and it can help you understand how UPS and FedEx’s proposed increases will affect your budget.

The second change has to do with the long term highway bill currently being discussed in Congress.

On the “Good News” front, the House has passed a 6 year $325 billion bill.

On the “Not So Good News” front, they have only identified funding for the first three years of this Bill.

Next up, the House and Senate will reconcile different versions of this legislation.

Hopefully this long overdue and vitally important piece of legislation will be on President Obama’s desk by Thanksgiving.
