NavisWorld to address e-commerce port and terminal issues

Terminals and ports will see greater demand for providing visibility and predictability to container moves for logistics providers and shippers

NavisWorld— a bi-annual conference providing port terminal operators with insights to optimize the movement of containers through their facilities with the use of advanced technology and other innovations – will also focus on e-commerce this year.

“While the main impact of e-commerce to date has been around last mile logistics and warehouses, it is interesting to think how e-commerce can link back to what’s happening in the terminal and port,” says Andy Barrons, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, for Navis.

The new warehousing infrastructure and downstream processes need to be underpinned with accurate and near-real-time information flows  from the upstream container movement from vessel arrival through to container availability and yard management that feeds the gate and rail process, observes Barrons.

“Terminals and ports will see greater demand for providing visibility and predictability to container moves for logistics providers and shippers,” he says. “This is turn will drive more automation of processes.”

NavisWorld, takes place in San Francisco on March 27-30 2017 at the Intercontinental Hotel.
