The national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline fell again, for the week of December 11, decreasing for the ninth time over the last 12 weeks and the seventh consecutive week, according to data issued today by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
The national average fell 10.5 cents, to $3.987 per gallon, following a 5.4-cent decline, to $4.092 per gallon, for the week of December 4, a 6.3-cent decline, to $4.146 per gallon, for the week of November 27, an 8.5-cent decline, to $4.209 per gallon, a 7.2-cent decline, to $4.294 per gallon, for the week of November 13, and an 8.8-cent decline, to $4.366, for the week of November 6.
Over the last seven weeks, the national average has declined a cumulative 55.8 cents. This week’s national average marks the first time the national average has been below the $4 per gallon mark since coming in at $3.905 for the week of July 24.
Prior to that was a 9.1-cent decline, to $4.454, for the week of October 30, which was preceded by a 10.1-cent gain, to $4.545, per gallon, for the week of October 23. That marked the highest weekly gain since a 13.9-cent increase, to $4.378, for the week of August 14. Over the last six weeks, the national diesel average has fallen a cumulative 45.3 cents.
Compared to the same week a year ago, the national average was down 76.7 cents, below annual comparisons over the previous four weeks, at 87.5 cents, 99.5 cents, $1.024, ands $1.019, respectively.
The average price per barrel of WTI crude is currently trading at $69.16 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, below the $73.40 reading a week ago at this time.
