Myers Industries announces leadership changes in distribution and material handling segments

Former distribution segment general manager to focus on Akro-Mils business in storage and safety products.

Myers Industries has announced that Todd Smith will step out of his role as vice president and general manager of the distribution segment to assume the role of vice president and general manager of Akro-Mils, a core material handling business for the company.

In his new position, Smith will be focused on executing Akro-Mils and Jamco Products’ strategic initiatives to profitably grow their storage and safety products business through broader distribution channels for healthcare, automotive and industrial markets. Smith will also focus on driving manufacturing efficiencies and global sourcing initiatives.

Under Smith’s leadership, the distribution segment successfully streamlined its U.S. operations from more than thirty branch locations to four strategically located distribution centers resulting in reduced shipping costs and improved customer order fulfillment. Smith is familiar with Myers’ material handling operations and has an extensive background in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement project implementations. Smith joined Myers Industries in 2007 from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he held the position of operations manager.

The company also announced today that Alex Williamson has joined as vice president and general manager of the distribution segment replacing Smith.

In this position, Williamson will be focused on the strategic growth of the segment, which includes Myers Tire Supply, Myers Tire Supply International and Patch Rubber. The strategic growth platform includes expanding market reach and global sourcing as well as offering niche products to the tire, wheel, and under-vehicle service industry.

Prior to joining Myers, Williamson was co-president of Seaman Corporation and held senior leadership positions at Noveon Inc. (now Lubrizol). He has over 24 years of experience in business management and an extensive background in marketing, sales, chemistry, and product engineering.

Williamson holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Chemistry from The College of William and Mary, as well as an MBA from Case Western Reserve University.
