Industry to celebrate Manufacturing Day 2023

Manufacturing Day, or MFG Day, strives to inspire the next generation, positively shift perceptions about the industry, and build the foundation for the manufacturing workforce of the future.

Manufacturing Day, or MFG Day, is an initiative of the Manufacturing Institute (MI) that strives to inspire the next generation, positively shift perceptions about the industry, and build the foundation for the manufacturing workforce of the future.

Held annually on the first Friday in October with events that continue throughout the month, MFG Day helps show the reality and future of modern manufacturing careers by encouraging thousands of companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, educators and community leaders. This year, more than 400 events are planned.

“Manufacturers will need to fill 4 million jobs by the end of the decade. MFG Day 2023 is our chance to build excitement and bring the possibilities and rewards of a career in modern manufacturing to more students and people nationwide. The Manufacturing Institute will continue to build and execute programs to solve current and future workforce challenges and collaborate with manufacturers across the country to equip the next generation of manufacturing leaders,” said Carolyn Lee, president and executive director of the Manufacturing Institute, the workforce development and education affiliate of the NAM.

The Manufacturing Institute provides a variety of resources and insights to help organizations plan and execute successful MFG Day events across the country. The MI also manages a nationwide database of events that are registered each year. By registering MFG Day events, thousands of event hosts in the United States join together in:

  • Raising nationwide awareness of MFG Day and positively changing perceptions of students, educators, parents, influencers and community leaders;
  • Demonstrating continuity within the industry to engage actively with local students and educators, creating long-term solutions to the skills gap;
  • Spotlighting strength in numbers and the important role manufacturers play in their communities, states and the U.S.; and
  • Highlighting the many community partnerships and grassroots efforts that are successful locally but work toward a greater common goal.

The Manufacturing Institute builds, diversifies and strengthens the modern manufacturing workforce, with the goal of furthering individual opportunity, community prosperity and a more competitive manufacturing industry. The MI engages underrepresented communities and aims to shift perceptions about careers in modern manufacturing, leads skilled training and career development programs, provides thought leadership and research on the changing state of the workforce and builds partnerships to scale up its impact on manufacturing in the United States.

As the 501(c)3 nonprofit workforce development and education partner of the National Association of Manufacturers, the MI is a trusted adviser to manufacturers, equipping them with solutions for the industry’s toughest challenges.
