Hannibal invests to sustain growth curve

Hannibal Industries (Booth 4747) is seeing strong growth for its pallet rack and steel tube products and to help sustain that growth, it is investing in its manufacturing technology, more people, and a new manufacturing plant in Houston slated to open in June, said Steve Rogers, executive VP, at a Tuesday booth visit.

Hannibal also announced that it has implemented significant advancements in its manufacturing facilities in Los Angeles. These advancements, including sophisticated robotics and upgrading IT systems, are helping the company increase efficiency and provide precision products to its customers on a global scale.

The improvements for the Los Angeles site, said Rogers, including a robotic welding work cell, and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system deployment that helps provide real-time order status information. “Just like our customers continue to automate their warehouse operations to provide better service, we are automating our operations to provide better service,” said Rogers.

Also with news at the booth was strategic partner Twinlode Corp., who relies on Hannibal to manufacture the tubular rack components of Twinlode’s Gen2 racking product. Sales for Gen2 have “just exploded” domestically and internationally, said Lawrence “Skip” Eastman, president of Twinlode. The popularity of Gen2, he explained, was in part because of the advantages of its modular construction, but also because the tubular rack prevents torsional twisting, so it exceeds stringent requirements for geographic areas with the potential for high seismic activity.

In the two years since it debuted the Gen2 storage rack system, the company has completed installations in North America, South America, Asia and the Middle East, with some of the largest food and beverage companies in the world, said Eastman.

Modex 2016 is scheduled to be held April 4-7, 2016 in Atlanta’s Georgia World Conference Center. The tradeshow will showcase the latest manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the material handling and logistics industry. Modern’s complete Modex coverage.
